Is GAMSAT a requirement for admissions?

GAMSAT is not much an old test but it has now become a standard and requirement for admission in the medical colleges and universities of Australia, UK and Ireland. All the good institutions dealing in the disciplines of medicine, dentistry veterinary science and in some other medical fields have made good score in this test a requirement for admission along with certain other requirements. Usually these institutions demand good CGPA in the graduation from a recognized university along with high score in this test.
What is GAMSAT?
GAMSAT is graduate Australian medical school admission test. As it is apparent from its name it’s a test for taking admission in the medical schools. The name of Australia is there because it’s administered by ACER and it was originally designed by the medical schools of Australia. It gained popularity in UK and Ireland in the recent decade and now they have made it a mandatory requirement in many universities and medical colleges.  It is a test based on reasoning mostly and it’s basically for the purpose of admissions in the graduate medical programs.
GAMSAT is a wonderful test designed in a great manner. This test keeps a check on the skills of students more then their knowledge in medical. The students who are proficient in physics, chemistry, biology and English can score well in the test. That is the same reason why GAMSAT test is gaining importance every day. A recent study indicates that in year 2010 around 10,000 students appeared in this test from different countries. It has been held once a year only but time for holding the test is different in Australia, Ireland and Britain because academic years start in different months in these countries. Similarly the months of registration for this exam are also different for these countries.
It’s usually for one long day. It starts in the morning and goes till the evening with breaks. It has three sections in total and students have to score well in all those sections to get a good overall score. The first section of the test has questions from humanities and social sciences. There are 75 questions in total and the students are bound to answer those in 100 minutes time. The second section is of essay writing for which students get one hour time. The third section of the test is the most important section because it has double weighting in the results. Students have to answer 110 questions in the third section and they have 170 minutes for that. These questions are from the physical science in general.
GAMSAT is a wonderful test for examining the brightness level of a student which is a mandatory requirement for many medical schools. The test is based on percentile system rather then marks obtained out of total marks. So a score is given as a result of test. The more score a student has, the more brightness of mind he/she has. Similarly such a student has more chances to get admission in the leading medical schools because of same high score.
