Borage is grown in most parts of the world including Asia, Europe, North Africa and South America. Traditionally borage was cultivated for use in the medicines and for culinary. But in the today world its cultivation is for many purposes including eating and as oilseed. Borage is the highest known plant for gamma-linolenic acid which comes from its oil. Borage is also used as a companion plant. For example if it is seeded with tomato it improves the growth of tomato.
