Borage


It is a kind of vegetable often cooked like the spinach. It is also eaten raw as salad greens. Borage is an herb and it has useful flowers on it also. Borage is an herb having cooling and soothing effect to body. The leaves of the borage have oval shape and are used in punches and for giving flavor to sauces. Borage is grown in most parts of the world including Asia, Europe, North Africa and South America. Traditionally borage was cultivated for use in the medicines and for culinary. But in the today world its cultivation is for many purposes including eating and as oilseed. Borage is the highest known plant for gamma-linolenic acid which comes from its oil. Borage is also used as a companion plant. For example if it is seeded with tomato it improves the growth of tomato.
